Fatherhood Boosts Male Brains

This past Tuesday, New Scientist published an article on their website in which they report on a recent study of the neurological happenings that take place in the brains of new fathers.

“Fatherhood produces changes in very high-cognitive-level areas,” said Kozorovitskiy at a meeting of the Forum of European Neurosciences in Vienna, Austria, last week. The nerve enhancements may reflect changes in the reward system, she suggests, encouraging the father to bond and care for the infant. It could be the neural basis of parenting, she says.

The above excerpt from the article makes me wonder: would this imply that “Deadbeat Dads” and other males who want nothing to do with their offspring, have some sort of condition that disrupts or blocks these changes?
