Product Review: The First Years Sure Comfort Newborn-to-Toddler Tub

The First Years Sure Care TubLike it or not, we all have to bathe, and therefore, as new parents we needed a tub for our son. Wooed by the inexpensive cost, my wife and I purchased the Sure Comfort Deluxe Newborn-to-Toddler Tub from The First Years. After almost seven months of use, I feel my opinion of this product is fairly solid and present to you the following review:

Pros:

  • Cheap - costs $15 to $20 depending on where you purchase it.
  • Decent for newborns - the sling for lying a newborn in while bathing him/her is secure enough to keep your baby stable while bathing.
  • Holds water - No, I’m not kidding, I dislike this product enough that I had to go out of my way to find any pros aside from the two above.

Cons:

  • HORRIBLE FOR BABIES WHOM CANNOT YET SIT UP AND ARE TOO LARGE FOR THE SLING!!! - OK, so I’ve only got one “con” but it pisses me off so much that I absolutely hate the product. For children who need to be placed in the reclined position of the tub, there is absolutely no stability. The “bump” at the bottom of the tub to hold them in position is too low, and the non-slip material used in the tub is slippery! The tub is sooooo bad at keeping our son in any kind of stable position, that bathing him has had to become a two man effort in order to keep him from getting a scuba lesson too early in life.

Summary:

If you look at the reviews on Amazon, it would seem that people absolutely love this thing, some of them maybe too much, but in my opinion this product is crap and not worth your time or money. Read through all 700+ reviews on Amazon, and you’ll see, there is a fair share of parents who have had the same experience, and share the same dislike of this tub.

I actually have this tub and used it for my special needs son, and I loved it as did my husband and my son. However, I purchased it and used it when my son was around 9-10 months, so I don’t have experience with how it worked for younger babies. I actually thought it made bathing him so much easier!!

This is a great tub. I bought it for my my friend who just delivered c-section. Much easier for her to bathe the baby than bending over the tub! I filled it with all kinds of baby clothes and accessories that I purchased from Sandboxcouture.com, (my favorite online store.)It was a great gift to give! She loves it!
