Go Ahead, Make Something
In honor of March being National Craft Month, I thought I’d put together a list of my favorite “Craft” related blogs. Now, before I go any further, I want to explain that my idea of what constitutes “Crafts” is a little broader than most peoples. Crafts to me aren’t just Scrapbooking, crocheting, and things of that nature, but the act of making something. To me it’s about creating an object, that object can be functional, decorative or both. For that reason you’ll see that some of the links below never actually mention the word “Craft” instead they categorize themselves as DIY or something like that. I really don’t care. When it comes to crafts, all I care about is making stuff, so on that note…
My favorite Craft/DIY related blogs are:
ReadyMade and the ReadyMade Blog: Hands down one of my favorite magazines is ReadyMade, a combination of great talent and writing, each issue is always full of ideas for projects both useful and fun. When I heard they recently started a blog, I immediately went and subscribed to the feed. You should too.
PaperForest: I found this site a while back in a post on Drawn!, and my head damn near blew clear off my shoulders. I had never really been introduced to the world of Paper Sculpture before aside from origami, but now I can’t get enough. I’m still pretty horrible at it myself, but even my failures have been entertaining for me.
Finkbuilt: More mechanical than the other entries in this list is Finkbuilt, whether you decide to try to follow along and mimic his projects or not, it’s just fun to see what he’s going to make next.
Parent Hacks: This site is a must for all parents, crafty or not. While not every post is about a DIY project or craft, the ones that are there are both clever and useful.
The MAKE: Blog: Welcome to Geekville, want to learn how to build your own time machine, rocket pack or virtual reality helmet. You might find it posted here.
Papercrafty: Returning to my newfound love of paper sculpture, we have Papercrafty a great resource for models, techniques and ides for all things paper related. Who would have ever thought flattened wood pulp cold be so much fun.
Now I know there are a ton more resources and blogs out there chock full of craft and DIY projects. If you’ve got one you’d like to add, post it in the comments.
No go on… MAKE SOMETHING.
