Product Review: Fisher Price Soothing Massage Bouncer

Fisher Price Soothing Masssage BouncerMy wife and I decided we needed to buy our son a bouncer, one that would be both affordable and effective. We wanted something that he would either enjoy because it stimulated him, or that relaxed and calmed him. So we began the hunt, and…

Dear Lord! Do you know how many bouncers there are out there? …More than enough.

Finally we decided that after eliminating a few that were obvious non-starters, we just needed to pick one and hope for the best. Our choice was the Fisher Price Soothing Massage Bouncer, which we chose mostly due to its massage feature. We thought that perhaps the massage would help calm our baby down and maybe even lull him to sleep.

Also, the bouncer was on sale from its original $35 dollar price tag to $25, which was well within our price range. We took it home, assembled it right away, and began to incorporate into our son’s daily life. Now that we’ve been using it for over two months, I feel confident enough to share the following observations.

Pros:

  • Easy assembly - I’ve dealt with having to follow more ridiculously worded and illustrated assembly instructions since becoming a father than I ever though possible. Thank God this was a breeze.
  • The massage is great - Our son really took to the massage functionality. At times, when he’s really enjoying himself in the seat and the massage shuts itself off, he’ll let us know with a whimper or cry.
  • Sits more upright than many of the other bouncers – Many of the other models we looked at positioned babies in such a way that they were almost laying down. We like that this one is more upright, like an actual seat.
  • Decent battery life – We use the bouncer a lot, and I’ve only changed the batteries once.

Cons:

  • Toys are positioned to baby’s sides – Our son can’t even really see the toys, because there out of his line of sight, never-mind interact with them.
  • Feature timer could last longer, or be manually set – Unfortunately this product invokes the pet peeve I talked about in a previous post, where automatic timers don’t last long enough.

Summary:

  • Good Value
  • Massage is a great added feature
  • Minor design flaws

All in all, we’re pretty please with this bouncer.

This is by far the best thing my son has. I think every parent needs one of these. My baby and I could not make it through a day without this.
