Product Review: Safety 1st Odorless Diaper Pail

Safety 1st Diaper PailAnticipating a new baby means anticipating the need to change diapers, a task I don’t believe anyone enjoys. As parents, we all go to great lengths to make this task as quick and painless as possible, hence the invention of the diaper pail. A trash can designated specifically to hold soiled diapers.

While contemplating which diaper pail to register for, my wife and I opted for the Safety 1st Odorless Diaper Pail over the world-famous Diaper Genie for one reason, cost. Did we make the right choice?

Pros:

  • The Safety 1st Odorless Diaper pail costs less than most other diaper disposal systems.
  • Bags used are basic kitchen size trash bags, which are cheaper than Diaper Genie or other proprietary brand refills, especially if you buy generic trash bags, like ones from WalMart or Target.
  • Pail does manage to keep a decent amount of stink from filling the room

Cons:

  • Holds far fewer diapers than I would like. In order to maximize the stink retention, we need to empty the thing about once a day on-average
  • Does not hold in all stink, "odorless" is a strong word, perhaps it should be called the "Less Odor Diaper Pail"
  • Deodorizer discs it uses are hard to find

Summary:

  • OK for the money
  • Uses kitchen trash bags for refills instead of expensive proprietary refills
  • Doesn't completely block all stink
  • Holds fewer diapers than it should

The pail suits us well, but doesn't exactly live up to its name. So long as it is emptied regularly, the pail does do a decent job and could be considered worth the money.

Where did you find replacement disks for this diaper pail?

Leslie - We never did find disks. Being so dissatisfied with the product we eventually went out and bought a Diaper Genie.

I have heard of people soaking shreds of cloth in various oils and using that in place of the disks.
