Initial Observations From a New Father

And we’re back…

It’s taken a while for me to adjust to things now that my homestead contains a population of 3 (5 if you count the pets) and I apologize for the lack of posts. But have no fear, everyone is healthy, and things are returning to some sort of schedule. As my first post since truly beginning the experience of fatherhood, I would like to share with you all some of my initial observations:

A Quick Note: My Son is Here!

Just wanted to let you all know why I have not posted in a little while. Early Wednesday morning, my wife went into labor, and later Wednesday night, after an emergency C-Section, my son was born. Everyone is doing fine, but due to the surgery, my wife’s hospital stay has been extended, soI’ve been spending my days and nights there with her.

I have taken tons of pictures and have plenty of stories to share, so once I’m home look for me to return to my regular posting routine. Untill then, I wish you all well.

Is Cord Blood Banking a Good Idea?

Like many expecting parents, my wife and I have been berated with mail advertising new baby products, offering discounts on purchases for the baby, magazine subscription offers, etc.

Normally, unsolicited mail takes a direct route to our trash and recycling receptacles, but the baby stuff… well that we take the time to look through it, all of it.

Maybe its because this is our first child, maybe its just because we’re paranoid, but we’re afraid that if we ignore anything baby related that crosses our paths, we might miss out on something, some tidbit of knowledge, that might make or break our attempts at parenthood.

Now we still end up throwing a lot of the stuff out. For the most part it is still just junk mail after all. One of the things we do hold on to though, are all of the ads for Cord Blood Banking. The two of us have mentioned the topic to each other as something we’d like to consider doing when the baby is born, but never had an in-depth conversation.

Since we are now two weeks away from the baby’s due date, and realistically, I could get a call at any moment that my wife has gone into labor, I felt it was time to get down to business and research the topic.

Yukon Cornelius and Me, Twins?

Yukon CorneliusMeOn more than a few occasions recently, I’ve been informed by various, unrelated parties that I bear a resemblance to Yukon Cornelius of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer fame.

Call me crazy, but I don’t see it.
